Nongrang becomes first woman tribal DGP of Meghalaya

Shillong, May 11: In a historic moment for the state police force and a proud day for the tribal community of the state, a woman officer has been appointed as the new Director General of Police in Meghalaya.

Indian Police Service officer, Idashisha Nongrang, belonging to the R.R. 1992 batch has been appointed to take charge from May 20th 2024, replacing L R Bishnoi who goes into retirement.

She is currently the Director General of Civil Defense and Home Guards, Meghalaya.

In a notification issued by the Governor, it was stated that Nongrang was selected from amongst the empanelled list of IPS officers duly recommended by the Empanelment Committee of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

She will serve in this position, to enhance public service and ensure the safety and security of the region, for a fixed period of two years with effect from 20th May, 2024 to 19th May, 2026.
