‘No to CAA implementation’: Assam opposition seeks President’s intervention

The 16 opposition parties of Assam on Wednesday held a crucial meeting to protest against the proposed notification rules of the CAA

The 16 opposition parties including others are Congress, All India Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, left parties, Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

Addressing the media, the opposition forum said that the political parties and the people of Assam have been opposing the unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 from the day one of its introduction in the Parliament. Unfortunately, the ruling BJP Government is taking advantage of its majority in both Houses of Parliament and passed the Bill ignoring the sentiment of the people of Assam”.

The opposition forum further added that the union Home Minister recently declared that the CAA is going to be implemented in Assam before the upcoming Lok Sabha Election. As this Act is not only unconstitutional but also it is going to nullify the Historic Assam Accord of 1985 by putting in danger the history, culture, social fabric, economy, and the very identity of the Assamese people.”
