Shillong, Jan 30: The Congress has decided not to hold any big rallies for the upcoming Meghalaya assembly polls.

A senior leader of Congress said they will not be holding big rallies nor will it have star campaigners but instead it will focus to connect with voters for the February 27 Meghalaya assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters, Meghalaya Congress president Vincent H Pala said, “Most of our candidates (are) contesting the assembly polls for the first time. Our party will focus on visiting houses of voters and holding small rallies at local community level to connect the voters.”

The Meghalaya Congress president said he himself would not be hosting big rallies in the Sutnga-Saipung constituency from where he is contesting the Assembly elections. “This time we will not bring big leaders for campaigning. We will connect with voters and tell them about our parties,” he said.

Pala claimed the Congress would win 30-35 seats in the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly in the February 27 election.

He further said the party has fielded many young and fresh faces as the state needs young leaders to lead the state.
