Shillong, Nov 23: The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has suspended its Assistant Director of Physical Education & Sports, Nantu Das, following allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
An order by Registrar in-charge of the university dated November 22, 2023, stated: “Shri Nantu Das is deemed to have been suspended with effect from the date of detention, i.e. the 19th November, 2023 in terms of Sub-rule (2) of Rule 10 of the Central Civil Service (Classification Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, and shall remain under Suspension until further orders”.
Das is accused of sexual misconduct with a woman football referee at the Kiang Nangbah old guest house on Sunday.
The woman referee was requested by NEHU to accompany the women’s football team of the university which will take part in the inter-university tournament to be held in Odisha next week.
Das was arrested and has been in custody since November 19, 2023.
