SHILLONG, JUL 15: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has released over ₹13.58 crore to Meghalaya under its SoNEC scheme during May–June 2026 for projects in health, education, energy, culture and connectivity.

Key allocations include installation of a 1.5 Tesla MRI at Tura Civil Hospital to improve diagnostics in Garo Hills, and infrastructure support for Shillong Polytechnic and a Multi-Disciplinary Training-cum-Resource Centre by NERCORMS.

In culture and community infrastructure, NEC funded the Seng Khasi Cultural Complex and Seinraij Jowai Community Hall.

It also supported upgradation work at Iewduh Market to benefit traders and farmers.

For renewable energy, NEC sanctioned surveys for Mawblei, Myntdu Leshka Stage-II and Selim Hydro Projects.

The Shillong–Umroi Airport Road, also funded by NEC, was completed in June 2026 to boost airport access, tourism and trade.

Separately, NEC released ₹18.93 crore to regional agencies, universities, NGOs and societies across the Northeast.

Part of this supported events in Meghalaya including the Industry Academia Research Conclave-2025 at NIT-Meghalaya and the Miss & Mister Beauty Pageant-2026 at NEIGRIHMS.

The Council said the funding aims to strengthen public services and accelerate inclusive development across Meghalaya.
