Mushroom poisoning kills a three-year-old boy, family members critical in Ri Bhoi

Shillong, June 5: A three-year-old child died on Wednesday after being treated for a couple of days, while his whole family is in critical condition after consuming poisonous mushrooms in Ri Bhoi.

It may be mentioned that on the afternoon of June 2, a family from Saiden village, under Nongkyndang in Ri Bhoi District, had dinner with allegedly poisonous mushrooms. After several hours, five members of the same family, including the three-year-old boy, were hospitalized, and shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital and Bethany Hospital, Nongpoh for medical attention.

Unfortunately, the three-year-old boy died on Wednesday morning, and the others are still in critical condition.

The boy, named Da-u-Rijied Syiemlieh, lost the battle in the ICU of Bethany Hospital, Ri Bhoi.
