Tura, Aug 4: A case of molestation of a minor girl has come to light from Garobadha in West Garo Hills. A video of the same had gone viral on social media recently, following which the locals and pressure groups had closed down the shop where the alleged incident took place.
Confirming the incident, West Garo Hills District Police said a case has already been registered in this connection at Tura Women Police Station under relevant sections of law. It further said all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that the perpetrator, who is currently absconding, is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
“We are working diligently, having engaged sources and technical resources, to locate and apprehend the accused swiftly. Our primary goal is to bring justice to the victim and to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. We appreciate the cooperation and vigilance of the community in bringing this matter to light,” said Abraham T Sangma, Superintendent of Police of West Garo Hills, in a press statement.
He also urged the public to remain calm and allow the district police to handle the situation. “It is through collective effort that we can create a safer environment for everyone,” he added.
Mentionably, the incident came to light when locals and pressure group members raided a shop cum godown situated in Garobadha market, which lies on the border of West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills Districts.
In the viral video, the shop had a bed on its 1st floor and the owner had allegedly asked a minor female student to come to the godown to engage in inappropriate behaviour.
The pressure groups from Garobadha and South West Garo Hills have closed down the grocery shop.
