Shillong, Mar 5: Minister in-charge Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Abu Taher Mondal on Wednesday informed that the department has instructed all block development officers (BDOs) to take up with the village employment councils (VECs) for Aadhaar seeding.

This was after the Centre has decided since January 1, 2024 that no payment will be made under the MNREGS without Aadhaar seeding.

“The matter has been taken up with the union minister by the chief minister and now till February 24, they have allowed us (to pay) for whatever works that have been done and henceforth no payment made if job card holders does not have Aadhaar seeding,” Mondal said in his reply during the question hour.

“Accordingly, we have instructed all BDOs to take up the matter at the VEC level and provide travelling allowances for taking them (job card holders) to the bank for Aadhaar seeding. We have also directed the banks that after 1 pm, they should give opportunity for Aadhaar seeding,”he added.

Earlier, the minister informed that the Batabari C&RD block is functioning. He admitted that there are infrastructure or staffing issues affecting the smooth transition and functioning of the block office.

He said that technical issues while shifting may affect the implementation of MGNREGA.
