Shillong, Sept 17: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday allotted portfolios to the eight newly inducted ministers while keeping a few including cabinet affairs, finance department to himself.
The eight ministers, four from the National People’s Party (NPP) – Wailadmiki Shylla (Jowai), Timothy D Shira (Resubelpara), Brening A Sangma (Dalu) and Sosthenes Sohtun (Jirang), two from United Democratic Party (UDP) – Metbah Lyngdoh (Mairang) and Lahkmen Rymbui (Amlarem), and one each from BJP Sanbor Shullai (South Shillong) and HSPDP Methodius Dkhar (Mawshynrut) – were sworn in by Governor CH Vijayashankar on September 16.
The two deputy chief ministers – Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar – have retained their portfolios.
Tynsong will continue to hold charge of the home (police), public works department (roads & buildings), district council affairs (DCA) and parliamentary affairs department while Dhar will continue to look after urban affairs department, transport department, commerce & industries department and department of prisons and correctional services.
Cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak, who was retained by the chief minister was given soil & water conservation department as an additional portfolio while he will continue to hold charge of public health engineering (PHE) and the housing department.
The chief minister has allotted plum portfolios to the eight newly inducted ministers.
Metbah Lyngdoh has been given power department, water resource department, taxation department, and textiles department while his colleague in the party and Lahkmen Rymbui will be in charge of education department, revenue and disaster managemnet department, information and public relations department & law department.
Timothy D Shira will be new tourism department, agriculture department and fisheries department minister, Brening A Sangma has been allocated border area development department, excise department & home (civil defence and home guards) department.
Sosthenes Sohtun has been given community & rural development department (C&RD), secretariat administration department (SAD) and general administration department (GAD) while Wailadmiki Shylla will be in charge of Health & Family Welfare department, Sports & Youth Affairs and Home (Passport) department.
Sanbor Shullai has been given Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department, Arts & Culture department, Printing and Stationery department and Legal Metrology department while Methodius Dkhar will be in charge of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affiars department, Labour Employment & Skill department, Registration & Stamps department and Cooperation department.
