Shillong, Feb 15: NPP state president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said not even the richest man in the country cannot buy land in Meghalaya.

“Even the richest man like Mukesh Ambani cannot buy land in Meghalaya because of the autonomous district councils (ADCs) and the Meghalaya Land Transfer Act, which has been constructed and framed by our forefathers,” Tynsong said while addressing an election campaign at Nongshken village on Thursday to garner support for three-time MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri.

“Therefore, there is no reason for people to be afraid because we have the ADCs and the land transfer Act,” he said adding “The Land Act passed by the KHADC is very strong and effective to further strengthen the land rights of the indigenous people.”

He also informed that the governor granting his assent to over seven Bills passed NPP-led EC in the KHADC is a big achievement.

On the allegations of corruption, Tynsong said, “People should not believe such baseless allegations because the government cannot spent a single rupee without being accountable for it. We have the CAG report, which can even send corrupt people to jail.”

He urged the people to vote for Kharpuri to ensure all round development of the constituency.
