Meghalaya woman found dead in Bengaluru flat; KSU demands fair inquiry

SHILLONG, APR 30: Agatha Ba Ithianghun Khongwet, a native of Tangmang village in Pynursla, East Khasi Hills, was found dead in her rented room in Hebbal, Bengaluru, on Wednesday evening, triggering a police investigation into the circumstances of her death.

She was discovered between 7pm and 7.30 pm, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Bengaluru Unit said in a statement on Thursday.

“Agatha Ba Ithianghun Khongwet, a resident of Tangmang village, Pynursla, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya… was found dead yesterday between 7pm and 7.30 pmin her rented room in Hebbal, Bengaluru,” the KSU said, expressing deep condolences on the untimely demise.

According to the Union, Khongwet was reportedly living in a relationship with her alleged boyfriend, identified as Nawaz Sharif from Manipur,at the Hebbal residence.

The cause of death has not been confirmed.

“The case is currently under investigation and is suspected to be a case of suicide / murder however, other possibilities have not been ruled out,” the KSU statement noted.

Members of the KSU Bengaluru Unit reached the location soon after the incident.

“Members of the KSU Bengaluru Unit were present yesterday, along with her friends, and extended necessary support,” the Union said.

“The Union urges the authorities to conduct a fair and thorough investigation,” it added, stating that it stands in solidarity with the bereaved family.
