Meghalaya Police triumph over West Bengal, qualify for quarterfinals in East Zone football tourney

Gangtok, Nov 21: The Meghalaya Police Football Team kicked off the Quasquicentennial Invitation NorthEast & East Zone Football Tournament campaign with a win against the West Bengal Police on Monday by 2-1 at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok, Sikkim.

It was the West Bengal Police XI that opened the scoreboard in the first half but it did not take long for MLP’s Bikram Chettri to equalise ending the first half with a 1-1 scoreline. Meghalaya continued to pressure and in the 76th minute Meghalaya Police were awarded a penalty, which Chettri netted from 12 yards, securing Meghalaya Police their first win.

MLP team will take on Mizoram Police in the Quarter finals on Wednesday. Winners will face Manipur Police in the Semi finals on Friday.
