Shillong, May 12: Meghalaya has partnered with Oxford Policy Management India to carry out the state’s Annual Health Survey, an initiative aimed at strengthening evidence-based public health governance and improving healthcare planning across the state.

The agreement was signed between the State Health Systems Resource Centre (SHSRC) Meghalaya and Oxford Policy Management India in the presence of National Health Mission Meghalaya Mission Director Ramakrishna Chitturi.

Dr Valerie Laloo, State Nodal Officer of SHSRC Meghalaya, signed the agreement on behalf of the state agency, while Prabal Vikram Singh, Country Director for India and Bangladesh at Oxford Policy Management, represented the organisation.

Oxford Policy Management India is an international development consultancy that works in partnership with leaders, providing analytical and practical policy expertise through its global network to support low- and middle-income societies.

Officials said the survey is intended to go beyond routine data collection by creating a mechanism for continuous population-level health analytics that can support policy decisions and programme implementation.

The initiative is expected to help the state identify emerging public health concerns, assess district-level disparities, monitor the progress of health schemes, and improve accountability in healthcare delivery.

Authorities said the exercise will generate periodic and granular health data that can guide more responsive allocation of resources and strengthen decision-making in Meghalaya’s health sector.

Officials stressed that localised health evidence is crucial for designing interventions suited to the realities of different communities.

The partnership reflects the state’s broader push towards data-driven governance and institutional systems that support continuous monitoring and evaluation in public health.
