SHILLONG, JUL 20: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the state government to submit an affidavit detailing the roadmap for expansion of the runway at Shillong Airport, even as DGCA said it is ready to grant execution-level clearance once state approvals are in place.

The division bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh was hearing a PIL on Monday.

Joint Director, DGCA, B Bhushan, who appeared via video conferencing, told the Court that the authority will move forward with execution permission as soon as it receives a formal undertaking from the State to clear all obstacles in the transitional and approach surface zones of the airport.

These zones are crucial for flight safety and have been a key hurdle in upgrading operations at the airport.

Advocate General A Kumar, representing the State, requested time to file an affidavit explaining how the runway expansion will be undertaken.

The Court allowed the request and asked the State to file the affidavit in the Registry before the next hearing, with copies to all parties.

The bench also asked the AG to respond to points raised in paragraph 3 of the affidavit filed by Amicus Curiae P Yobin.

The Court further directed that officials from both DGCA and the state government be present, either physically or through VC, at the next hearing.

The matter will now be heard on July 23, 2026.
