Shillong, Aug 29: The High Court of Meghalaya on Monday instructed the state government to initiate necessary disciplinary proceedings against GK Iangrai, a suspended Meghalaya police officer, in accordance with the law.
The Special Investigating Team (SIT) of Meghalaya police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) in November, last year, had arrested senior police officer, Gabriel K. Iangrai, for allegedly misappropriating funds in the purchase of vehicles.
However, during Monday’s hearing, the state submitted a status report regarding the disciplinary and criminal actions against the former Police officer.
The court made a noteworthy observation that limited progress has occurred in the disciplinary proceedings due to the presenting officer’s absence on medical leave; upon returning, he was diagnosed with typhoid.
The High Court of Meghalaya expressed its hope that the officer has now recuperated and the police department can proceed with the disciplinary actions in accordance with the law.
