SHILLONG, AUG 10: Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar on Monday distributed 15 Smart glasses to beneficiaries with visual impairment at a programme organised by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE) Shillong, in collaboration with Voice of Specially Abled People, VOSAP, at Lok Bhavan.
The assistive devices were handed over to beneficiaries associated with CRCSRE Shillong to enhance independence in daily activities.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, the Governor applauded the initiative and the work being done by CRCSRE Shillong.
“I appreciate the efforts of Ram Shakal Sahani, Director, CRCSRE Shillong, and Uttam Ojha, Divyangbandhu and Adviser, VOSAP, for their contribution towards promoting assistive technology for persons with disabilities,” Vijayashankar said.
He said CRCSRE Shillong has been playing a key role in disability welfare in the state.
“The office of CRCSRE Shillong has been continuously undertaking commendable work for the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities under the leadership of Ram Shakal Sahani. I appreciate the commitment and dedication of CRCSRE Shillong towards providing rehabilitation services and facilitating access to assistive technology for persons with disabilities,” the Governor said.
Vijayashankar urged continued focus on inclusion and empowerment across Meghalaya.
“I encourage CRCSRE Shillong and all stakeholders to continue their dedicated efforts for the welfare, rehabilitation and empowerment of persons with disabilities across the State of Meghalaya. It is important that we have sustained initiatives that promote inclusion, dignity, independence and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities,” he said.
VOSAP Founder Pranav Desai joined the programme online and spoke on the role of assistive technology in promoting independence and accessibility.
Uttam Ojha, Divyangbandhu and Adviser, VOSAP, was also present.
Other dignitaries included Ram Shakal Sahani, Director, CRCSRE Shillong; L. Kynjing, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities; and Bridget Warshong, Deputy Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. Staff, parents and beneficiaries attended the event.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Ram Shakal Sahani thanked the Governor for gracing the occasion and encouraging the efforts of CRCSRE Shillong.
