Meghalaya: CM Conrad remembers late Purno Sangma, says “Happy Fathers Day in heaven, Baba”

Shillong, June 18: Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma on Sunday remembered his late father and a senior politician Purno Sangma on the occassion of Father’s day.

Taking to his social media he shared a picture of his father, and wrote, “Happy Fathers Day in heaven, Baba. We miss you everyday. Keep blessing us from above.”

Father’s Day is being celebratedon Sunday (June 18) worldwide to recognize all the contributions that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children.

Who was Purno Sangma?

Purno Agitok Sangma, populary known as PA Sangma was an Indian politician who also served as the 4th Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 – 1990.

He was also 11th Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998.

Sangma also served as a member of the Lok Sabha from Tura from 2014- 2016, 1991-2008 and from 1977-1989. He was also the minister of 21st Information and Broadcasting in the Rao ministry from 1995-1996.

PA Sangma was also the founder of NPP and Co- founder of NCP.

Purno Sangma was also the candidate for the Indian presidential election 2012 which was supported by BJP and AIADMK, however he lost to Congress politician Pranab Mukherjee.

He died of a heart attack in Shillong on March 4th, 2016.
