SHILLONG, AUG 27: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said the cabinet has brought more clarity on enforcement and penalties under the Meghalaya Identification, Safety and Security of Migrant Workers Rules.
Sangma said the Governor’s observations have been incorporated.
“The new provision where the Governor had made some observations, those amendments have now been included. There are certain more aspects of clarity in terms of definition of officers and procedures. We have gone deep down into aspects of officials who can do inspection, how inspection will be done, powers they have, what actions they can take,” he said after chairing the cabinet meeting.
He said the amended rules also clarify fines, imprisonment and legal action.
“Necessary training will be given to concerned officials at the grassroots level who will be implementing them,” Sangma added.
The cabinet also cleared rules for the Meghalaya Flood Plain Zoning Act, 2026 to operationalize the legislation.
