MeECL has no outstanding dues to be paid to power generating companies: Sanjay Goyal

SHILLONG, July 20: The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) have no outstanding dues to be paid to the power generating companies, informed Chairman-cum-Managing Director of MeECL Sanjay Goyal.

The Chairman also informed that the dues of all the generating companies are up to date.

“The dues of all the generating companies in which the corporation is paying is now up to date so we now there is no due as such which is there with the generating companies especially the central companies from where we take power except for one disputed matter with NTPC which there is a matter in court also we are trying to find solution to it so we can settle the matter amicably”, said Goyal

He also said that the talks are still on and in the coming days he hope that the matter will be resolved soon.

He also informed that the MeECL is paying all the central power generating companies on time, and the government is in the position to take rebates also on the timely payments.

Goyal said that the MeECL is trying not to default on any loan payments, any dues of central power companies to ensure that MeECL functions properly.

“If we make these payments in time, we get a better ranking in terms of overall financial stability as well as other parameters on which the Government of India governs us and analysis our performance,” Goyal said.

Goyal informed that the State was rank in the lowest ranking (Rank D) last year. But, the Government are trying to improve the ranking this year.

Responding to a question about the water level at Umiam Water Reservoir, Goyal informed that another 15 feet of water is required for it to be in maximum capacity.

Goyal also informed that the government is exploring other options like Thermal Power Projects (generating electricity from coal) to help solving the power crisis in Meghalaya.
