Imphal, May 18: Security forces have intensified operations across parts of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts in Manipur following reports of suspected militant presence in the region.

According to police, deployment and surveillance have been significantly stepped up in the Henglep area of Churachandpur district on Monday after intelligence inputs indicated possible militant activity.

Official sources said search operations were carried out in the hill ranges northwest of Leilon Vaiphei and Kharam Vaiphei villages in Kangpokpi district. Authorities said the operations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, security forces on May 17 arrested an active cadre of the proscribed militant outfit PREPAK during a separate operation in Imphal East district.

The arrested individual was identified as Laishram Jivan Singh (38), a resident of Langmeidong. He was apprehended from Khabam Lamkhai Makha Leikai under the jurisdiction of Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district.
Sources indicated that a major operation could be launched in the area as security agencies continue surveillance, combing operations and area domination exercises across the sensitive hill terrain.

Security agencies are continuing intensive operations in the affected areas as efforts remain underway to trace missing persons and restore normalcy. No further arrests had been made at the time of filing this report.
