Shillong, Oct 15: A man narrowly escaped an attempted robbery on Tuesday night after two individuals allegedly tried to assault and steal from him along the Oxford–Last Stop road in Laban, Shillong around 8 pm.
The victim, who requested anonymity, narrated that he was walking along the road when two helmet-wearing men on a scooty stopped him and asked to see his ID. Claiming to be from Mawlai, the duo then allegedly tried to snatch items from the pocket of his jacket.
Sensing danger, the victim resisted and shouted for help, alerting nearby residents.
In a bid to escape, the suspects attempted to speed away, but their motorcycle skidded and fell into a drain.
Locals quickly intervened and managed to apprehend both individuals.
Police arrived shortly after and detained the suspects.
During the search, officers recovered a Yamaha RX motorcycle without a number plate and a knife believed to have been intended for use in the robbery.
Both suspects were taken to the police station and an investigation is underway.
