Shillong, March 16: The Maldives national football team arrived in Shillong on Sunday for the first-ever international football match hosted in the state.

The visiting team received a warm welcome at noon from Cliff Nongrum, Vice President of the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA), along with other MFA members. The reception took place at Hotel Vivanta in Khyndailad, where the Maldivian squad will be stationed ahead of their clash with the Blue Tigers.

The upcoming friendly serves as a crucial preparatory match for India, as they gear up for a high-stakes AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifier against Bangladesh on March 25. The football fever in Shillong is set to soar, with fans eagerly awaiting these thrilling encounters.
