Shillong, May 19: The Taxi drivers association of Khyndailad has given 24 hours to the State police to arrest a group of non-tribals who assaulted a Khasi driver in Khyndailad on Thursday evening.

Bashai Syiem, the local cab driver from Mawpdang, suffered injuries on the head area and was rushed to the Shillong’s Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

Syiem said he was attacked by a group of non-tribals alleged to be from the Sikh community.

Following this incident, the Taxi Drivers Association have threatened to not allow any non-tribal drivers to enter Khyndailad unless the state police have arrested these culprits.

On Friday, the East Khasi Hills district administration along with police met the Taxi Drivers Association to assess the situation.

However, the local cab drivers have threatened to go on strike if the police fails to arrest the miscreants, who had allegedly assaulted one of their members on Thursday night at Khyndailad.
