Shillong, May 6: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Tuesday demanded the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) to immediate call an emergent meeting of its Governing Council to resolve issues pertaining the recruitment process of nurses in the institute.

In a letter to the Director of NEIGRIHMS Dr N Mehta, KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar said, “(We) request (you) to initiate the process of calling an Emergent Governing Council to resolve the other issues which need urgent intervention.”

Marngar said the meeting chaired by cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh with NEIGRIHMS authorites and KSU on May 5, had unanimously decided that the present recruitment will be put on hold until and unless all the issues raised by the Union are addressed and resolved.

He said it was also decided that NEIGRIHMS will sort out the issues which it can resolved on its own accord and the issues which cannot be decided by the NEIGRIHMS will be table before the Governing Council and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

Marngar also asked the NEIGRIHMS authorities to decide as what are the issues to be resolved by the institute and those issues to be placed before the Governing Council or the Ministry for necessary action and resolution.

The key issues raised by the KSU during the indefinite sit-in-protest are: Age limit to be as previous recruitment of 35 years for nursing officer and previous mentioned age for different posts in different groups, implemention of ratio of 80:20 female male in Nursing Officer, experience certificates only from 50 bedded hospitals to be removed in Nursing Officer, examination centre to be in Meghalaya and not in other states and to be
conducted through offline mode, roster register must be reviewed, backlog vacancies of EWS must be revoked, Store Keeper qualification must be kept as previous recruitment.

The KSU has been demanding NEIGRIHMS to conduct its own recruitment examination in future, reservation for Group B post must be extended besides the amended recruitment rules must be further deliberated with the stakeholders and different associations of NEIGRIHMS to avoid any complications.
