SHILLONG, DEC 8: The President of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Lambokstarwell Marngar, paid rich tribute to the late leader Bull Lyngdoh on his 31st death anniversary, hailing his selfless contribution to the indigenous community.
“Today reminds us of the sacrifice made for serving the indigenous community. We remember Bull Lyngdoh’s selfless contribution to the indigenous community through the Khasi Students Union,” Marngar said.
Marngar recalled Lyngdoh’s efforts in fighting against unabated influx into the region, despite facing criticism. “There were those who strongly criticized the steps taken by Bull Lyngdoh during that time. However, when he is no longer here, people realized a leader like him is difficult to find,” he said.
Urging KSU members to continue fighting for the safety and security of the indigenous community, Marngar said, “When we take up issues, there will always be those who would criticize us, but we should never pay heed to such things as our duty is to continue fighting.”
He also highlighted the need for effective laws to protect the indigenous community, stating, “The government is saying not to take law into our hands, but we want to say this: our efforts may be considered as illegal by the state government, but for the indigenous community, it is law that will protect and ensure safety and security.”
Marngar urged KSU members to be united and continue their fight for the community’s safety and security, saying, “I urge you should be the law, check gates for safety and security of the indigenous community. We should be united at all times.”
