SHILLONG, DEC 8: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) has announced a mass agitation by organizing a public demonstration at DC’s office, Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills district on December 10, against the proposed Shree Cement Integrated Cement Plant at Daistong village, citing government inaction on alleged illegal land transfer and environmental concerns.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the council’s central executive committee (CEC) held on Monday.
In a video statement, JNC president Sambormi Lyngdoh stated, “We have come to one clear decision: As we warned earlier, if there is no response from the government after our submitted complaints, we will not sit idle with folded hands.”
The JNC has sent several complaints to government offices, including the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills, and the Chief Executive Member (CEM), JHADC, but claims to have received no response.
“We urge residents of the concerned areas—especially the people of Daistong and nearby communities affected by the Shree Cement proposal—do not fear and do not feel uncomfortable. JNC stands firmly with you. Come join us on December 10,” Lyngdoh appealed.
The JNC has called for a public demonstration on December 10, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises in Khliehriat, which will include placards, speeches, and a mass gathering of supporters.
“We urge the wider public across East Jaintia Hills to please refrain from blaming others or voicing concerns solely on social media. Show your love for our land not just online. Step up and support this vital issue that impacts our community, our land, and our future,” Lyngdoh said.
