Interstate vehicle lifting racket busted in Guwahati and Meghalaya; six arrested, stolen bikes recovered

Guwahati, Dec 10: The Guwahati police, in a joint operation with the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the West district, have busted an interstate vehicle lifting gang and arrested six individuals linked to the racket.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Md. Abdul Hanif Seikh (32) from Jhograpar, Dhubri district; Md. Rafiq Ali (30) from Arikati, Kamrup district; and Md. Jakir Hussain (27) from No. 2 Seshara, Barpeta district.

Based on secret intelligence, the Gorchuk police station team launched an operation in collaboration with the SOG, leading to the apprehension of the three suspected bike lifters.

Following their confessions, the police laid a trap in Jowai, Meghalaya, and arrested three more individuals allegedly involved in receiving the stolen vehicles. The receivers have been identified as Dibormi Amrynsong (26) and Tunadahun Matra (25), both from Kharthane, West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, and Rimiki Suchiag (22) from Saphai, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

During the investigation, police recovered three stolen two-wheelers from Karkhana village, near the India-Bangladesh border. They also seized several tools used in the thefts, including three master keys and an iron-cutter hand saw.

According to police reports, the gang has been highly active in the Assam-Meghalaya region, operating in a well-planned manner. Stolen vehicles were often smuggled across the border into Bangladesh.
