Hmar & Kuki communities seek CM Conrad Sangma’s help for evacuation of families from Manipur

Shillong, May 8: The Hmar community and other communities, including the Kuki community, of Manipur residing in the State of Meghalaya met Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday to seek support from the State government to ensure peace is maintained in the State, especially in Shillong.

The leaders of these communities have also sought support from the Chief Minister in helping evacuate the families of these communities from Manipur, which is reeling under tense situation owing to the fierce ethnic clashes.

Talking to reporters, the CM said he has directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) to take note on the matter.

He also informed that the communities have urged him to take up some of their issues with the Central government as a political party. “They have also asked (me) to take up some of the concerns with the central government, as a political party, so those things also, I’ll be going to Delhi soon, so whenever I get the opportunity, definitely I’ll take up the matter,” Sangma said.

Terming the situation in Manipur in the last few days as ‘very unfortunate’, he stressed that overall peace in Manipur is important for the overall peace in the North East region.

He also once again urged the people of Manipur and the communities that to ensure peace and stop the violence. “All problems that have arisen should be solved through dialogues so as an amicable solution will arise to resolve all these violence,” he maintained.
