Jowai , Oct 20: After weeks of delay in the paddy harvest due to tensions between Pnar villagers of Lapangap and Karbi villagers of Tahpat, authorities from both Meghalaya and Assam have reached an agreement to restore normalcy in the area.
A crucial coordination meeting was held at the Assam Border Outpost (BOP) in Khanduli to resolve the issue.
The meeting on Monday was attended by West Jaiñtia Hills ADC and Border Magistrate G.H. Passah, while the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police R. Barua represented West Karbi Anglong district. Prominent headmen and associations from both districts were also present.
During the closed-door discussion, SP S.R. Sarma informed that both sides agreed to allow the harvesting of paddy to resume peacefully.
It was also mutually decided that both communities will cooperate with the ongoing investigation into the death of Oriwel Timung of Tahpat Village, who died on 8 October following a clash between the two groups.
Authorities urged all stakeholders to maintain peace and ensure that agricultural activities continue without further disruption.
