Dimapur, June 20: As the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANSU) staged a sit-in protest over the prolonged delay in the construction of a 100-bed girls’ hostel at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, Nagaland Higher Education and Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along on Saturday said the state government has limited control over the project as it is being funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Speaking at the felicitation programme for NBSE HSSLC Top Achievers 2026 at Dimapur Town Hall, Along clarified that neither the state government nor the Centre is directly funding the hostel project.

“The college is only the beneficiary. The CSR donor and the implementing agency are responsible for execution,” the minister said, explaining that the government cannot directly intervene in the implementation process.
He added that the government’s role is largely confined to urging the implementing agency to expedite the work and complete the long-pending hostel project, which has become a key demand of ANSU.

The clarification comes against the backdrop of mounting student unrest over the stalled infrastructure project, with ANSU launching a sit-in protest to press for its immediate completion. The hostel, intended to improve accommodation facilities for female students at Kohima Science College, has remained unfinished for years, drawing criticism and frustration from the student community.

Along’s remarks sought to address concerns over the delay while underscoring the constraints faced by the government in projects executed under CSR funding mechanisms.
