Shillong, Sept 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has carried out a significant cabinet reshuffle, dropping eight ministers from the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA-II) government.
The decision comes after completing two and a half years of his government.
Sources informed on Monday that the chief minister had called on the Governor CH Vijayashankar at the Raj Bhavan and submitted the list of the eight newly inducted cabinet ministers.
They include four from the NPP – Jowai legislator Wailadmiki Shylla, Jirang legislator Sosthenes Sohtun, Dalu legislator Brening A Sangma and Resubelpara legislator Timothy D Shira, two from the United Democratic Party (UDP) – Mairang legislator Metbah Lyngdoh and Amlarem legislator Lahkmen Rymbui, Mawshynrut legislator Methodius DKhar from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Those who have been axed from the NPP include education minister Rakkam A Sangma, food and civil supplies minister Comingone Ymbon, health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and PHE minister Marcuise N Marak or power minister Abu Taher Mondal while from the UDP, social welfare minister Paul Lyngdoh and revenue & disaster minister Kyrmen Shylla and sports minister Shakliar Warjri from HSPDP and animal husbandry and veterinary minister AL Hek from the BJP.
The oath of office and secrecy to all newly inducted cabinet ministers will be administered by the Governor at the Raj Bhavan at 5pm on Tuesday.
In the 60-member legislature, the NPP has 33 members and has the support of the UDP, HSPDP, BJP.
