Shillong, Dec 1: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has changed the date of counting of votes for Mizoram Legislative Assembly from December 3 (Sunday) to December 4 (Monday). This decision comes after the Commission received numerous representations to change the counting date from a Sunday, which holds special significance for the people of Mizoram.

The polling for electing new representatives to the 40-member Mizoram Legislative Assembly was held on November 7, 2023. But the counting was scheduled on December 3, a Sunday, along with the declaration of results for Legislative Assemblies of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Telangana

However, the ECI received several representations from various quarters requesting for change in date of counting from 3rd December, 2023 (Sunday) to some other week day, on the ground that Sunday holds special significance for the people of Mizoram.

“The Commission, having considered these representations, has decided to revise the date of counting for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram from 3rd December, 2023 (Sunday) to 4th December, 2023 (Monday),” ECI said in a press note on Friday evening.
