Drug peddler escapes custody during medical check-up in Shillong, police launch manhunt

Shillong, May 29: In a shocking turn of events, a 27-year-old individual identified as Vicky Shabong, a resident of Pynthor Block 1 in Shillong, East Khasi Hills, managed to escape from custody while undergoing a medical check-up at the civil hospital.

Shabong, who had been arrested earlier in connection with Nongpoh Police Station Case Number 60 (5)2023 under sections 21(b)/29 of the NDPS Act, was reportedly lodged in judicial custody.

The incident occurred on Sunday when Shabong was scheduled for a routine medical examination at the civil hospital in Shillong. Taking advantage of the situation, he managed to escape from the authorities. Immediate action was initiated by the concerned officials upon discovering the escape, and a manhunt is currently underway to trace and apprehend the fugitive.
