Shillong, June 29: The Directorate of Economics & Statistics along with Shillong Collage organsied a programe to celebrate the 17th Statistics Day on Thursday. The program was organised on a theme ‘Alignment of State Indicator Framework with National Indicator Framework for monitoring Sustainable Development Goals’.
At the event, Professor T.K Chakrabarty NEHU, Shillong was the chief guest. During the event, he highlighted the major achievements of Directorate of Economics and Statistics, regarding formulation of various indices for the year 2022-23.
N.Mohondas Singh joint , Director (Regional), Head NSSO (FOD) RO Shillong Ro Shillong, and Dr E. kharkongor, Principa Shillong Collage also highlighted the importance of Statistics in present era.
The Shillong regional office of the National Sample Survey Office (Field Operations Division), celebrated the National Statistics Day on Thursday along with the rest of the country.
Every year, this day is celebrated based on a theme.
National Statistics Day is marks the birth anniversary of Prof PC Mahalanobis (1893-1972), who is credited as the ‘Father of the Indian Statistical System’. His contibutions and work in this field contributed greatly to the nation in planning, development and several other aspects.
The main objective of celebrating the Statistics Day is to create public awareness on the role and importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation for the Country’s development.
