SHILLONG, OCT 28: National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has expressed confidence that his party is well-prepared for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) polls.

“We are preparing well. We are working day and night. We are not taking things lightly,” Dhar said, adding that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is camping in Garo Hills at least one or two days a week to oversee the party’s preparations.

According to ground reports, Dhar said the NPP’s prospects in the region are very good, and he is hopeful of a positive outcome after the election.

When asked about the possibility of anti-incumbency affecting the NPP, Dhar said it’s difficult to say whether there is anti-incumbency against the party, but any ruling government will always face criticisms.

Regarding the issue of GHADC employees, Dhar said the NPP has come up with a formula to resolve the issue, not for election propaganda but for the interest and welfare of the employees. “Slowly and steadily, this issue will be resolved,” he added.

Dhar emphasized that the party’s performance will depend mainly on the selection of candidates, and issues of anti-incumbency may be against individual MDCs or the executive committee.

“Therefore, we need to work things from all angles to ensure the party performs well in the upcoming polls,” he said.

On the possibility of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MDCs joining the NPP, Dhar said, “They are yet to send feelers as of now.”
