SHILLONG, NOV 20: Deputy Chief Minister in‑charge of Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thurdsay affirmed that the beautification of the Khyndailad area is in progress and will be taken up in full after the state Assembly relocates to its new site at Mawdiangdiang.
Speaking to media persons, Dhar said, “Not pending but we are in the process of beautifying it. You know very well even the old Assembly is yet to shift to new location. As soon as we shift it to the new location, we will go for the full beautification of that area.”
He added that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently being finalized, outlining plans to dismantle the existing Assembly building and develop pedestrian‑friendly walkways, footpaths, flower pots, and upgraded tiling.

“The DPR has been prepared and it is a very nice one. So may be when everything is completed, tender will be floated. The old Assembly will be dismantled as per plan, which is however yet to be finalised, to make nice walkways and footpaths – everything is in the DPR.”
Acknowledging concerns from local residents, Dhar noted: “Some of the residents requested us that if we close the road we may face problem. In the meantime, we are discussing and when everything is clear, we are planning to change the tiles and make flower pots all along and timing will be fixed after both government and residents agree.
Regarding the MTC shopping mall, he said completion is targeted for next year, with 85‑88 % of work already done.
“The targeted date of completion it should be by next year. Hopefully, let us wait till the actual date of completion comes and only then I will be able to say anything,” he added.
