Shillong, Oct 24: The vibrant Durga Puja celebrations came to an end with Vijay Dashmi, also known as Dussehra, on Tuesday.
Vijaya Dashami was celebrated in Shillong with the immersion of the goddess’s Durga idols at Wah Umhkrah River, Polo.
On Tuesday, the enthusiastic participants took part in the immersion procession, which is also the conclusion day of the Durga Puja Festival. Thousands of Hindu faithfuls walked alongside the lorries transporting the goddess Durga idols from various pandals in Shillong to be immersed in the Ghat at Polo.
This auspicious day marks the victory of good over evil and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour across India.
On this day, people gather to witness the effigies of the demon king Ravana being burned, symbolising the triumph of Lord Rama over evil forces.
