Shillong, Oct 16: The Central Project Management Unit (CPMU) under the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP-II), the Central Water Commission (CWC), the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) and the Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited (MePGCL) conducted a joint site visit to the Umiam–Umtru Stage-IV Dam in Meghalaya to review hydro-mechanical rehabilitation works and identify measures to expedite implementation.
The visit focused on assessing the progress of ongoing works, addressing site-specific challenges and coordinating efforts to ensure timely execution of the rehabilitation measures.
The joint inspection brought together central and state-level project teams and MePGCL officials to review implementation issues and discuss measures to improve work progress while maintaining the required technical and safety standards.
Hydro-mechanical rehabilitation is a key component of dam maintenance. It involves work on mechanical systems associated with the operation and control of water flow, including gates, hoisting mechanisms and related equipment. These systems are essential for the safe and reliable functioning of dam infrastructure.
The review also provided an opportunity to identify execution bottlenecks and strengthen coordination between the agencies involved in the project.
The DRIP-II programme aims to improve dam safety through rehabilitation, modernisation and improved operational practices. The joint visit forms part of the monitoring and implementation review process for rehabilitation works at the Umiam–Umtru Stage-IV Dam.
