C H Vijayashankar to be sworn-in as Meghalaya Governor on Tuesday

Shillong, July 28: Meghalaya’s new Governor Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar will be sworn-in on Tuesday (July 30, 2024) at the Raj Bhavan.

He replaces Meghalaya’s present Governor Phagu Chauhan.

Hub News has learnt that Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has cut short his tour of Delhi, where he had meetings lined up with central ministers, to attend the swearing-in of the new Governor.

Vijayashankar was appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya late night on Saturday by the President of India.

He was elected as member of Karnataka Legislative assembly in 1994. In 1998, he was elected as Lok Sabha member from Mysore Lok Sabha constituency. He was re-elected to the Mysore Lok Sabha constituency in 2004.

Vijayashankar served as a cabinet minister in the government of Karnataka, holding the portfolios of the forest department and small scale industries. He unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Hassan constituency as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, running against former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda.

The President announcement a major gubernatorial rejig on Saturday night, changing Governors for as many as 9 States and Union Territories including Meghalaya.
1. Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde appointed as Governor of Rajasthan.
2. Jishnu Dev Varma appointed as Governor of Telangana.
3. Om Prakash Mathur appointed as Governor of Sikkim.
4. Santosh Kumar Gangwar appointed as Governor of Jharkhand.
5. Ramen Deka appointed as Governor of Chhattisgarh.
6. C H Vijayashankar appointed as Governor of Meghalaya.
7. C.P. Radhakrishnan, Governor of Jharkhand with Additional Charge of Telangana, appointed as Governor of Maharashtra.
8. Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Assam, appointed as Governor of Punjab and has also been appointed as Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
9. Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Sikkim, appointed as Governor of Assam and has also been given additional charge of the Governor of Manipur.
