Breakthrough in Jhalupara arson case; one arrested

Shillong, Jan 2: Shillong Police have arrested one person for his involvement in an arson case which damaged at least four two-wheelers at Jhalupara area of the city.

The fire incident took place on December 28, 2023 in the premises of House No 70 JB. Cantonment, Jhalupara.

Four Scooty bearing registration No. ML-05-A-2201, ML-05-R-1523, ML-10-A-3806, ML-05-N-7063 which were parked there were gutted.

Accordingly, an FIR was lodged by the complainants and a case was registered.

“During the course of investigation, one male person involved in the incident of arson causing damaged to vehicles and nearby shops was identified and arrested,” East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

“After a massive manhunt he was taken into Police custody. Investigation is being carried out for an early chargesheet,” he said.
