Body of missing Nongjri teen recovered from Ri Bhoi river

Nongpoh, Dec 29: A group of children, who went to swim at the Umran River near Sohliya village in Ri Bhoi District, found a body floating on the river and informed village head, who subsequently informed the police from Umsning Police Station.

On the arrival of the police, the dead body was fished and later identified as 18-year-old Pynshailang Malieh from Nongjri village, who had been missing since December 21, 2024.

According to the Umsning Police Station, they received information around 8 AM on December 29 about a body found in the Umran River at Sohliya, and they immediately rushed to the spot and fished the body out. They also informed the family who had filed the missing complaint, who later identified the body as Pynshailang Malieh.

It was also informed that Pynshailang Malieh had a mental disorder and had been missing from his home since the evening of December 21, and was last seen at Nongkya village. His body was discovered 9 days after he went missing.

The police have taken the body to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for a postmortem and the investigation is ongoing.
