BJP releases manifesto for ADC Polls, promises support for traditional heads and single mothers

Shillong, Jan 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released a ten-point manifesto assuring to empower tradtional heads, financial assistance to single mothers and regulating mining within six months if elected to power in the two autonomous district councils (ADCs) in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, which are going for polls on February 21.

Addressing media persons, BJP state president Rikman G Momin said that the party seeks to provide monthly honorarium to empower traditional heads like Syiem, Doloi, Sardar & Rangbah Shnong and extend financial assistance of Rs 2000/- per month to registered local domestic workers, tou drivers, widows, single mothers and labourers facilitated by the dorbar Shnongs through the centre.

Stating due to losses incurred from illegal mining evenue of all three District Councils have decreased, Momin said, “BJP will ensure that mining is regulated and implemented within 6 months as per the Supreme Court order to ensure financial stability for all district councils.”

He further said that vocal for local will be the mantra for promotion of tourism showcasing the craft and culture of the state besides strengthening traditional healing practices with the help of AYUSH Ministry

The president also assured constitution of central monitoring body for central schemes with redressal mechanisms.

“District Council to create a cell or department for the purpose of investment for trade and business for the educated unemployed youth of rural areas in collaboration with Syiem, Doloi, Sardar & Rangbah Shnong,” he said while adding “Expedite the matter pending at the Ministry with regard to increase in the number of members including nominated members within 6 months. With the amendment and increase of the number of members to 40 out of which 5 will be nominated, the party will propose that one of the nominated members will be the Syiem (KHADC) & Doloi (JHADC).”

Momin also stated that scientific disposal of solid waste of syiemship’s or dolloiship’s jurisdiction to be administered by local bodies with complete assistance from the council.

“(We will also) introduce a transparent recruitment policy for all recruitments in the District Councils,” he added.

Asked, the BJP state president said that he cannot predict how many seats the party will win but the party has given potential candidates for the two ADC polls of which 5 in JHADC and 14 in KHADC.

“If it is God’s wish let all candidates win..We are confident that our candidates will win and work for the people,” he said.

Further, Momin maintained that the BJP will continue to support the NPP-led MDA government.

“Since we are alliance with the MDAgovernment, the CM is working hard because I cannot say blindly like that without documentation. Now we are in the coalition so we have to support this MDA government,” he stated.
