Dibrugarh, Dec 25: Members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal on Thursday staged a protest in Dibrugarh, burning an effigy of Muhammad Yunus to condemn the killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh.

The protesters took out a rally from the VHP district office and marched towards Thanachariali, raising slogans against the Bangladesh government for what they described as its failure to protect the Hindu minority.

Participants chanted religious slogans during the demonstration and demanded justice for the victim, identified as Dipu Das.
According to the organisers, the protest was held to draw attention to what they alleged was a brutal killing of the youth in Bangladesh and a pattern of violence against minorities across the border. During the rally, demonstrators burned an effigy of Yunus as a mark of protest.

“Today, we organised a protest rally against the Bangladesh government for completely failing to protect Hindu citizens in Bangladesh. A Hindu youth was brutally killed and set ablaze in public. We strongly condemn such acts of brutality,” a VHP member said.

The protesters also alleged that extremist elements were operating freely in Bangladesh and accused the government there of not taking adequate steps to ensure the safety and rights of minorities.
