Assam: One lynched, another seriously injured over mobile theft in Sivasagar

Guwahati, June 24: In a case of mob lynching, 27-year-old Palu Gowala lost his life in Assam’s Sivasagar district, while his accomplice Dadu Orang sustained injuries after being brutally beaten by locals on suspicion of stealing mobile handset.

The tragedy unfolded in Phukan Nagar of Sivasagar.

According to police sources, Gowala and Orang were accused of breaking into a local residence and stealing mobile phone. They were caught and soon a mob in the locality took matters into their own hands and brutally assaulted them.

Later, a police team arrived at the locations, rescued both and rushed them to hospital where Gowala succumbed to his injuries.

Police have registered a case and investigation is on.
