Agartala, September 3: In a major drug haul, the Assam Police intercepted a tanker truck at the Assam-Tripura border near the Churaibari police checkpoint.
The tanker, registered as NL01AG-5508 and originally intended for transporting petroleum products, was found to be concealing a massive quantity of dry marijuana (ganja).
Under the leadership of Pronab Milli, the officer in charge of the Churaibari watch post of the Assam Police, and supervised by Tushar Deb, authorities uncovered 71 packets of ganja, weighing a total of 1,420 kilograms, inside the tanker’s tank.
The estimated value of this seized haul in the black market is approximately Rs 1 crore 42 lakh, and the intended destination was Bihar.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Mithun Sarkar and a resident of Teliamura, Tripura, was taken into custody.
The Bazaricherra police station has registered a case against the driver, Mithun Sarkar, under the NDPS Act, and the investigation is currently ongoing.
