Guwahati, Feb 15: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has taken action against party MLAs Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das for publicly supporting the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government.

APCC President Bhupen Borah issued showcause notices to both MLAs, demanding a response within a day. This move follows Purkayastha’s resignation as the working president of the Assam Congress, after which both MLAs met Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and announced their allegiance with his government.

The showcause notices was sent for the contradiction with the MLAs’ actions, noting their prior criticism of the BJP government’s alleged corruption and other issues. APCC President Bhupen Borah seeks clarification on whether the MLAs stand by their earlier stance or now endorse the BJP government’s policies.
