Guwahati, Aug 23: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday lashed out at the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind chief over his remarks on hate speech, asserting that the organisation’s political relevance has faded in the state.

“I don’t care about Jamiat at all. Congress is their ‘B-team.’ Today, if the chief minister of Assam—irrespective of the party—is attacked, we will protest against it. The people of Assam, not the Jamiat, will decide who their chief minister will be,” Sarma said while addressing a gathering.

Sarma’s said this as he rolled out a major development initiative in Jagiroad, where he distributed financial assistance to nearly 38,000 women entrepreneurs under the Chief Minister’s Women Entrepreneurship Mission.

The scheme aims to empower women across Assam by fostering self-reliance and boosting grassroots entrepreneurship, the chief minister said.
