Guwahati, Feb 11: The Assam Healing (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill, 2024 has been approved by the cabinet on Saturday.

The bill will prohibit healing sessions and provide strong action against ‘healers’ extorting the poor and downtrodden people in the name of treatment.

It’s widely known that many poor and downtrodden people were exploited in the name of magical healing and the healers taking advantage of their ignorance and poor condition.

Many practicers claim to master the art of magical healing practices in treating patients with congenital diseases such as deafness, dumbness, blindness, physical deformities, autism, and other conditions. This bill aims to criminalise and penalise individuals with imprisonment and fines who are found guilty of engaging in such acts.
