Guwahati, Oct 22: A massive crowd gathered on Wednesday at Nalbari, where the Assam State BJP organized a Nyay Yatra rally demanding justice for the mysterious death of Assam’s legendary singer and cultural icon, Zubeen Garg.
The rally witnessed the participation of thousands of Zubeen Garg’s fans, BJP party workers, supporters, and well-wishers who came together to call for a speedy judicial process and a fair investigation into the case.
Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita, Assam cabinet ministers Chandra Mohan Patowary and Jayanta Mallabarua, GMDA President Narayan Deka, State Committee General Secretary Anup Barman, and State Youth Morcha President Rakesh Das were among the key leaders present at the rally.
Speaking to reporters, Assam minister Jayanta Mallabarua said, “Today, more than 75,000 people have come out across Nalbari to ask for justice for Zubeen Garg. Everyone knows that justice will come through the court, but we need a proper SIT enquiry within a limited time. People are demanding that, and we have complete faith that the justice system of India will deliver justice for Zubeen Garg.”
“Every citizen of Assam and our 6.5 million BJP members are appealing for justice for Zubeen. We assembled here today to pay heartfelt tribute to our musical icon. The BJP has also taken initiatives to honor his legacy — every constituency will start a music school, and a larger-than-life statue of Zubeen Garg will be erected. Many events will be organized across booths to pay homage to him,” said Union minister of State Pabitra Margherita.
He said, “Personally, I lost my best friend. Zubeen was not only a cultural icon for Assam but also a source of inspiration for me. He brought me back to Assam and encouraged me to start a magazine called Maya, which he himself named. We spent countless days together, and his loss is deeply personal to me and to every Assamese.”
