Three held for extortion in South Garo Hills; claimed to be members of pressure group

Tura, Oct 22: Police from Rongram Outpost on Wednesday intercepted and arrested three individuals who were allegedly extorting money from traders while claiming to be members of one of the ACHIK pressure group.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mansrang Ch. Marak, Donstand A. Sangma and John Momin are all residents of Lower Durabanda in South Garo Hills.

Police also seized a Maruti car bearing registration number ML-07-B-3936, which was reportedly used by the trio during their extortion activities.

An investigation is underway to determine whether the accused have any links to other similar cases in the region.
